Results from my astrophotography week in the south of France

During the third week of September I had the opportunity, for the third consecutive year, to go with a group of people to the south of France in the Haute Provence where I could dedicate 100% of my time to astrophotography. At least, that was the plan. The weather decided for something else. We arrived on Saturday but not before Thursday we had our first clear skies. At the end I extended my stay with an extra day which brought the total number of clear nights to 3,5. Fortunately I was able to work in parallel: My CCD camera was mounted on my telescope while my DSLR captured some widefield pictures. So here are the results:

  1. Hey there!

Outstanding work. I’m on the verge of getting this lens myself for my Nikon D750. Can I ask what ISO you used with your canon 6D and what software you used for processing?

    Truly inspiring work!

    Jake

  2. Excellent pictures. I just ordered the Samyang 135m f2 lens to use it as a light y little astrograph. One question: Did you use a Canon 6D without IR filter or all the pictures were taken with the 6D without filter modification? I am curious about the 6d performance ith the stock filter. I do have the same camera, but use a 600D modified for imaging. Thanks in advance for the info and Congrats for your astrophotographic work!!

  3. Thanks Juan
I’ve had my 6D modified in November 2015. So all pictures on my website from before that period (including this post) were taken with a standard 6D. But you will also find some more recent examples with the IR filter removed.

  4. Thanks for the information. I am considering to modify my 6D, but at the same time I am tempted by the new cmos-cooled cameras, such as the ASI1600MM. Anyway, I ordered the Samyang 135mm f2. Now, waiting for a dark sky to test it.
